Willow Valley Series
Canadian artist Robert Bateman often speaks of the need for people to connect with special places. I do have a few! Although I grew up in northern Alberta in a settler's log house on the Wapiti River, family and circumstances have drawn me in my adult life to hike the windblown landforms of southern Alberta, from Willow Valley and the Crowsnest Pass to Pincher Creek and Waterton National Park. There's something about ravaged limber pines clinging for decades to fragile rock faces, the fast-moving cloud shadows crossing the valleys in front of the Livingstone Range, that made me reach for oil paints and bigger canvases and brushes. So I departed from watercolors for a time to work on this series. There may be more to come. And for the last time, no these hoodoos are not in Drumheller!
